For creation of contour in civil 3d has three steps.
- Surface Creation
- Make A DEM file
- Transfer in Contour Model.
Surface Creation:-The 3D surface is defined as the number of 3D co-ordinates placed in their actual position and make 3D views of an object.
PROCEDURE:-It is completed into two steps
1.(a) Data collects from the field survey of surveying instruments .
(Total Station, 3d lesser scanner survey , Drone survey, Dgps survey etc.)

2. Make A DEM File:- After created surface type the SURFACE EXPORT TO DEM in the command. A surface export to dem dialogue box open.
After filled the dialogue box. Then OK. Take a time to convert surface to dem .

3. Transfer in Contour Model:- Go to home tab of planning and analysis work space of civil 3d and click on connect tool .
A data connection provider dialogue box will be open. Select the ADD RASTER IMAGE OR SURFACE CONNECTION select dem surface folder and then connect. Click on Add to map. A raster image shown on display.
Go to Display manager on the TASK PANNE . Right click on the surface and select Create Contour layer .
Select the contour interval ,Major Contour and level then ok.
